No Money Refresh- Shopping Your Home
Sometimes we have to just make do with what we have, right? It’s just a fact of life. Refreshing your home cost effectively is sometimes a challenge, but if you learn to look at old decor with a fresh perspective, it can be done. Here is how I shopped my home for a no money refresh!
Refreshing My Fireplace Decor
During this time of quarantine and work furlough for me, I decided to check a box off of my home refresh list and tackle my living room. Mind you, I had purchased all of my supplies about 6 months earlier but never had the energy to tackle it- so it all just sat in my basement. Again, if you read my introduction, you might remember I deal with very limited (not limitless) energy. Thanks whacked out body! Love you, mean it…! In all seriousness though, taking 6 months to tackle something big is not that unusual for me and my body. Like I keep saying, Little By Little is my motto.
Any who…back to the point. Once finished with the refresh, during a quarantine on top of that, I had to find a way to decorate with what I had. Repurpose the things that worked before. You know, shopping your home for a no money refresh. Leave it to Hubby to pressure me into repainting something else (like he did with the fire place), and leave it to him to be right about it again too. It was his idea to paint this mirror and re-use it. Begrudgingly I have to admit I don’t hate it!
Painting My Existing Mirror
When we bought paint for the fireplace tile refresh (see that post here) we picked two colors- Cracked Pepper and Dark Secret by Behr. Cracked Pepper won for the fireplace, so I decided to use Dark Secret on the mirror that has hung over my fireplace for the last 15 years to freshen it up and to make it work with the new color scheme. And the best part? It was free! I already had the paint and brushes leftover from the fireplace renovation. Truly a no money refresh!
Shopping My Home
Now all that was left was shopping my home for a few things to place on the mantle. A globe planter that used to be on my coffee table, an old clock from another room, a dough bowl I long ago purchased from Decor Steals, and an old Longaberger vase my husband inherited in his divorce from his ex-wife (Ha! I’m sure she would love to know it is on my mantle.) Shopping your home for a no money refresh can be easy and fun if you are willing to slap a coat of paint on something, or are willing to just look at it in a new way. Next time you are looking for a quick easy refresh, give it a try! And in case you were wondering what my mirror (and fireplace) looked like before the new paint, here’s a picture-
Hope you try it! Thanks again for visiting-
